The Avent Isis Manual breast pump uses massage stimulation and gentle vacuum to express milk so only occasional compression of the handle is required once let-down is achieved. This pump has been clinically proven as effective as an electric pump. With its quiet, discreet operation you can conveniently pump wherever and whenever you need.

It is a great option for first time pumping moms because it is simple to use and easy to clean. A combination of massage and gentle vacuum is used to effectively express milk. The let-down massage cushion helps to stimulate a natural milk flow, which allows you to express milk more quickly without causing discomfort. With this pump, you can easily pump, store and feed milk using any Avent bottle or cup.

  1. Great in a pinch Review by Jessica

I mostly used this pump to store milk "just in case" and to pump while I was away from baby. I found it helpful if I needed to relieve engorgement, but probably would not recommend for someone needing to pump everyday while at work. I found it somewhat hard to pump unless I was really full and it was also kind of messy. The milk would usually leak a little from the silicone part, but I just kept a burp rag handy. It was convenient to travel with because it is small and light weight. I could just put the pump in my diaper bag instead of having to carry a whole extra bag. Does not require batteries, chargers, electric; very easy to take apart, clean and reassemble. Comparatively inexpensive, came with a few extra parts in case some were lost; accessories and matching milk storage and bottles easy to find in most stores. Loved the Avent bottles as well although they are fairly expensive. Overall I found the pump to be fairly easy to use, convenient, and a good value for use a couple times per week. 2. Pleasant Surprise Review by Lawyerchef

I have a Medela Pump in Style for use at work -- it is faster and I can rig it through my bra to be hands-free. I got the Avent Isis as a hand-me-down from my sister-in-law, who did not care for it at all. I first tried it when I had a clogged duct, and I found it too painful. But, I gave it a few more tries and have really come to appreciate this product. Yes, it's kind of a nuisance to deal with all of the parts when cleaning, but it's quick and quiet, and when my daughter has a nap that's so long I get uncomfortable, it's so easy to grab this and squeeze out an ounce or two to make myself comfortable. I imagine I will use it on days that I have to be out of the office during my usual pumping time, as I'm not about to lug the pump-in-style to court. Good product. (Posted on 12/3/09)

  3. Avent Isis Manual Review by First Timer

When I purchased the pump I wasn’t planning to pump very often, but I wanted to have the option. I find that it is a bit time consuming to use; however, this is the only pump that I’ve used so I don’t have anything else to compare it to. Although the silicone cushion makes pumping more comfortable, it seems to make more of a mess than just the flange by itself. Everytime I use the cushion milk gets behind it and leaks out. When I pump without the cushion I don’t have any leaking. (Posted on 11/17/09)

  4. My favorite pump Review by Busy Mom
    Rating

used this pump after I had both of my kids and plan to use it for our third. I preferred it hands-down over my electric Medela pump that cost 4 times as much, hurt more and did not pump as quickly.

I wanted to be able to breast-feed for the first year, but was returning to work after only 3 months. Since my employer didn't offer a private room to pump with an outlet, this was a lifesaver. I found that I could fill a bottle in a 20 minute break without the noise of an electric pump or the hassle of finding an outlet or going through batteries. The handle would make a loud squeeking noise over time, but a dab of vaseline inside the handle (where it connects to the pump) kept it quiet and didn't interfere with sterilizing the rest of the pump.

I was able to use the same pump for both kids, Avent even helped by sending replacement parts for the parts that wear out over time. We will have to buy a new pump with this child since we thought our baby days were over. (Posted on 11/14/09)

  5. Good Deal Review by Hayleys Mom
    Rating

It's a good deal for the money. I couldn't afford an electric so I bought this. When my milks flowing it's great but when I'm not stimulated, I have some difficulty. I usually put the baby on one side and the pump on the other (pretty hard to do) because if I don't have her helping my milk flow I can't get anything. Recommend it for a stay-at-home mom who only pumps every once in awhile for storage. Always keep a towel or rag at hand. It leaks a little every time you remove it. (Posted on 11/6/09)

  6. Does not work for me Review by Catie S.

My baby is now 4 months old and I have been feeding her directly from the breast ever since her birth. She has just started on rice cereal and I try to express milk to mix with the cereal. My breasts are very small and I wonder if this is the reason for it taking me more than an hour to get just about 2 ounces of milk. I was thinking that I may need to get a new shield but I am not sure why I have not been able to successfully use the pump. I know that I have enough milk supply as my baby is very plump and well fed. I wish I could give a better review for this product but my experience has just been very frustrating. (Posted on 9/7/09)

  7. The BEST manual pump out there Review by B. Troyer
    Rating

I used this breast pump for 2 of my babies and it works great. I went back to work in December and pumped 2 times a day and it worked great. I switched to a double electric pump and my milk supply started to decrease. I switched right back to the Avent manual and the milk was expressed quickly and my supply bounced right back. I LOVE this product so much I bought two, so I could pump both breasts at the same time at work! I've been using it for at least 3 months now and won't go electric again. It can be a little tiring to manual pump 2 times a day, but my new little guy is worth it! (Posted on 9/7/09)

  8. GO AHEAD AND BUY THIS NOW! Review by K. Ritchie

I am a full time working mom and this is my third time around with the Avent manual breast pump, and I could not be happier! During the past 4 years I have tried several (and researched several more) manual and electric pumps with the hopes of breasfeeding each child for at least 1 year each. I can honestly say that this pump is far superior to anything else out there. I also want to express to anyone who is considering breasfeeding and has not done it in the past that, along with a stellar pump, you are going to need a stellar support system and some tips. When you are in the hospital for the birth of your child, DO NOT let anyone tell you that your milk has not come in and give your baby a bottle; this has happened to a lot of people I know and this theory is completely false! Also, I have noticed that some women say that breasfeeding hurts. In this situation, proper latching on is key. If your child is having a hard time, don't give up--it absolutely gets easier. Talk to a lactation consultant in the hospital or anywhere else and you will get the help you need. To keep the pain away in the first week or two, continuously use pure lanolin provided by the hospital (or get some at any superstore). I have read in some reviews (of different/previous models of pumps) that pumping hurts; again, this is where the lanolin helps. Consider the fact that when your baby is nursing, his/her mouth is wet--your nipples need to be moisturized with the lanolin before you pump to avoid discomfort. Another tip is, if you are going to work and intend to pump, start building a supply of milk in the freezer a couple of weeks before you leave the home. The best way to do this is to pump one breast while the baby nurses on the other. It is possible to get 4-8 ounces (or more if you like) a day in reserve. I have found that this also helps keep my supply up when I am back at work. Lastly, it really is important to pump at work as often as you can. I know it is "inconvenient," but your results will be so much more successful; I know results vary for everyone, but I am able to express about 18 ounces a day by pumping 3 times per day. And we aren't nursing our kids for the sake of convenience, but to truly nourish our children. The time passes so quickly and I guarantee that you will not regret your efforts. Good luck and best wishes to you and your family! I know that you will love this pump. (Posted on 9/7/09)
